Your writing
Everything you do in ProseStitcher—the drafts you import, the passages you harvest, the cards, stacks, notes and bins on the canvas—is held on your computer. It is saved in two places: the app's own storage, so your session is there when you come back, and the .stitcher project files you choose to save.
Nobody else can see any of it. It is never uploaded, never backed up to a server of mine, and never examined. I have no way to read your work and no mechanism that would let me.
If you save a project into iCloud Drive, Dropbox or a similar folder, that file is then handled by whichever service you chose, under that service's own terms. That is your arrangement with them, not something ProseStitcher is involved in.
Network connections
ProseStitcher works entirely offline. It makes network connections in only two situations, and both differ depending on where you got the app.
- Checking for updates. The version downloaded directly from my website asks GitHub, where the updates are hosted, whether a newer release exists. That request carries nothing about you or your writing—only what any web request necessarily includes, such as your IP address, which GitHub receives as the host. The Mac App Store version does not do this at all, because Apple delivers those updates.
- Opening a link. Choosing Help opens the tutorial videos in your web browser. From that point you are on YouTube, and Google's privacy policy applies, exactly as if you had typed the address yourself.
There is nothing else. No usage statistics, no crash reporting, no feature telemetry, no advertising, no third-party software development kits.
What I receive
If you email me about a problem, I receive whatever you choose to send—your message, your address, and any file you attach. I use it to answer you and for nothing else. I don't add you to a mailing list and I don't pass it to anyone.
If you bought ProseStitcher from the Mac App Store, Apple handles the purchase and gives me only anonymous sales figures. I never see your name, your address or your payment details.
Children
ProseStitcher is a writing tool for a general audience. It is not directed at children, and since it collects nothing, it collects nothing from children either.
Your rights
Laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to see, correct, export or delete the personal data a company holds about you. I hold none, so there is nothing for me to show you or erase. Your writing is already entirely in your hands: the project files are ordinary files on your disk, and deleting the app and its files removes everything.
Changes
If ProseStitcher ever gains a feature that changes any of this, I will update this page and change the date at the top before that feature ships—not afterwards.
